history

Former manor in Aleksandrowice

The village was first mentioned in 1404 as Lexandrovice , then as Alexandrowycze (by Jan Długosz , 1470 to 1480), Olexandrowycze (1498), Alexandrowice (1581). The name is patronymically derived from the first name Aleksander (and followed his changes in Polish: Alexander 1146, Lexander 1382, Olexander 1447) with the typical West Slavic suffix - (ow) ice.

The village originally belonged to the knightly Aleksandrowski family from the neighboring village of Morawica. In the 16th century it belonged to Jan Karniński, a supporter of the Reformation . After the evangelical church in Cracow was destroyed, the next owner of the village gave his manor to the Cracow Calvinists in order to reorganize their congregation. The prayer house or the manor was burned by the Kraków plebs in 1613. In 1625 the village was bought by Piotr Gołuchowski, who renovated the manor. His son Piotr Gołuchowski converted to Catholicism and expelled the Protestants.

In the late 18th century the village had around 200 inhabitants.

During the third partition of Poland in 1795, Aleksandrowice became part of the Habsburg Empire . In the years 1815-1846 the village belonged to the Republic of Krakow , in 1846 it was annexed again as part of the Grand Duchy of Krakow to the countries of the Austrian Empire. From 1855, Aleksandrowice belonged to the Kraków district .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Aleksandrowice became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the Krakow district in the General Government .

From 1975 to 1998 Aleksandrowice was part of the Kraków Voivodeship .
