Mogilany is a village in the powiat Krakowski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with around 13,650 inhabitants.

history

At first the village belonged to the Polish kings, from 1199 to the Goworek of the Rawicz family , from 1231 to Teodor Gryfita (alias Czader) and between 1243 and 1560 it belonged to the Cistercians in Szczyrzyc . It was first mentioned in a document in 1232 as villa nomine Mogilani . Before 1325 the parish was established.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Mogilany became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Mogilany came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the General Government .

From 1975 to 1998 Mogilany was part of the Krakow Voivodeship .
