The National Road 7 (short DK7 , pol. On National Road 7 'or, 7 road') is a national road and after the main road 8 , the second longest street of this kind in Poland . It currently runs from Żukowo to the Slovakian border near Chyżne and serves as a connection between the Tricity's seaports with Warsaw , Krakow and Slovakia. It represents a north-south axis in Polish road traffic .

In the meantime it has been replaced on some sections by the S7 expressway . After the completion of the S7 expressway, the national road between Gdansk and Rabka-Zdrój will disappear from the road network. Between the junction Żuławy-Zachód and Elbląg , the national road is part of the European route 28 , and between Gdansk and the end of the Slovak border it is part of the European route 77 .

history

Landesstraße 7 was established in 1986 and connects routes with completely different origins. The section north of Warsaw was known as Droga państwowa 1 until 1985 , while the section south of Warsaw was called Droga państwowa 13 .

Gdansk - Warsaw

DK 7 is a section of the route of the former German Reichsstrasse 130 between Danzig and Olsztynek , which then extended to Olsztyn . Between the cities of Płońsk and Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki , the state road runs on the route of the former German Reichsstrasse 128 , which led from Cranz in East Prussia to Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki.

Warsaw - Krakow

This section was mainly in Congress Poland , which belonged to the Russian Empire. In 1827 only the short section between Warsaw and Sękocin was already developed as a road . From 1829–1831, the Polish Bank had the entire route between Warsaw and Krakow expanded to the Chaussee. The short section from Krakow to the then Austrian-Russian border was known as the Warschauer Reichsstraße .

Krakow - Chyżne

Until 1918, this line belonged entirely to the Austrian crown land of Galicia . The first section between Kraków and Głogoczów was called the Cracow Reichsstrasse , the second section between Głogoczów and Chyżne was called the Myślenice Reichsstrasse . The southernmost section of the route between Myślenice and the then Austro-Hungarian, now Polish-Slovak state border was completed in 1878 and opened to toll traffic on January 1, 1879.
