The Droga ekspresowa S5 ( Polish for "expressway S5") is a partially completed or under construction and in the planning state expressway in Poland . It should branch off from the S7 expressway at Ostróda and run via Grudziądz , where it crosses the A1 motorway , Bydgoszcz and Poznan to Wroclaw , where it meets the A8 motorway . In the course of this, the S5 will cross four voivodships and become part of European route 261 .

Planning history

A connection from Bydgoszcz via Poznan to Wroclaw is planned in the road construction plans of 1945/46. Today's A1 should follow this plan via Bydgoszcz and from there the route of the S5 should branch off. In the plans of 1963 and 1971, the route is included with slight modifications. Since 1976 the route has been included in the course it is now running. Since 1985 it has been known as Droga ekspresowa. From 2001 onwards, the route will be referred to as the S5. On October 13, 2015, the course of the road was extended by a government decision by about 100 kilometers in a north-easterly direction from Nowe Marzy near Grudziądz to Ostróda to the S7 expressway . On this route, the expressway is to run parallel to state road 16 and replace it.

particularities

At Szubin , the S5 has only two lanes. Between the motorway junctions Poznan-Wschód and Poznan-Zachód S5 runs on a common section with the A2 highway and freeway S11 .
