Map with all coordinates: The Droga ekspresowa S51 ( pol. For 'expressway S51') is a expressway in Poland and represents a connection between the expressway S7 near Olsztynek and the city of Olsztyn . It runs along the existing national route 51 and is one of the shortest expressways in Poland . It was originally intended to connect the now-abandoned S16 expressway and to be completed between 2010 and 2012. However, these plans have been changed: The road was completely realized in 2019 and now starts outside the city of Olsztyn near Tomaszkowo .
Planning history
The Polish network plans from 1945 and 1946 did not contain the connection. In 1963, the line was in the planning for the first time. This remained in the network plans of 1971, 1976 and 1985 until the political change in Poland. In 1993 and 1996 the construction of this connection was not planned.
It did not appear again until 2001 - now under the name S51 - in a Polish network plan. Nothing changed in the following planning.
Completed sections
The bypass of Olsztynek with a distance of 6 km, as part of the section of the S7 expressway between the nodes completed Olsztynek-Nidzica Zachód and-Północ in the years from 2010 until 2012. The traffic handover took place on September 29, 2012.
Planned sections
Another section with a length of 15 km is currently being planned. It will connect to the Olsztynek bypass and lead to Tomaszkowo , a village just before Olsztyn. The construction work envisages the construction of a new route with two lanes and two lanes each and space for a third, as well as the construction of eight viaducts , three bridges and two green bridges . In addition, two nodes should be created. The construction works will cost 1.1 billion zlotys .
