The Droga Krajova 12 ( DK12 ) is a Polish country road , it is at the same time the second longest of all national roads Poland. It runs in a west-east direction from the Polish-German border in Łęknica to the Polish-Ukrainian border in Dorohusk through the voivodeships of Lubusz , Lower Silesia , Greater Poland , Łódź , Mazovia and Lublin over a length of about 730 km. The Lublin - Piaski - Dorohusk route is part of the E 373 ; the Kurów –Lublin – Piaski line is part of the E 372 .

history

This road connects regions with completely different historical affiliations and routes with completely different origins. The western section of the route used to belong to the Prussian province of Lower Silesia as Reichsstraße 122 . The eastern section of the route belonged to the territory of the Second Polish Republic between 1918 and 1939 .

The middle section between Kalisz and Łask and the eastern section between Radom and Chełm were declared state roads (droga państwowa) by the Polish Road Act of December 10, 1920 . The further, at that time still unpaved stretch of stretch from Chełm via Dorohusk to Kowel was also declared a state road by the Polish Road Act of June 23, 1921.

Between 1930 and 1940 a road bridge was built over the former border river Prosna near Kalisch. This enabled a continuous road connection between Posen and Kalisch to be established, which was designated as Reichsstraße 387 after the German occupation of Poland and the subsequent annexation of the Wartheland .

In 1985 the Polish road network was reorganized. The previous state roads (droga państwowa) were renamed and renumbered as state roads (droga krajowa) . Since 1986 there have been eight state roads on the route of today's DK 12:

• DK 298 State border - Żary (Sorau) - Żagań (Sagan) - Szprotawa (Sprottau)
• DK 299 Szprotawa (Sprottau) - DK 34 near Głogów (Glogau)

In 2003 the numbering of the road network was changed so that all state roads were marked with two-digit numbers and all provincial roads with three-digit numbers. At that time, the eight roads mentioned above were merged to form DK 12.

On April 10, 2006, the self-governments of the Lublin, Lodz and Mazovia Voivodeships founded an association for the construction of the S12 expressway in Radom . The already completed section between Bronowice and Puławy -Dęblińska will be rededicated to the S12 at a later date.

At the end of 2011, a second border crossing was opened in Łęknica , whose feeder road bypasses the city to the southeast. The western beginning of the DK12 was moved from the old crossing (Łęknica - Bad Muskau ) to this new line.
