The road runs parallel to the Wrocław motorway bypass on the former route of the national road 8 in the urban area of Wrocław (Breslau) and the surrounding area. It connects the S8 expressway from the Kobierzyce junction with the national road 8 near Długołęka and represents the alternative route for the A8 motorway , which was only fully opened on August 31, 2011 .
The street number was officially added to the state road network on August 11, 2011 .
Since August 4, 2020, Droga krajowa 98 has been downgraded to Droga wojewódzka 372 and a municipal road.
