The National Road 19 (short DK19 , pol. For, national road 19 'respectively, national road 19') is a country road in Poland . It currently runs on two sections in a southerly direction from the Polish- Belarusian border at Kuźnica via Białystok , Lublin and Rzeszów to the Polish- Slovak border at Barwinek . The road crosses three voivodeships over a total length of 552 km. The first section from Kuźnica to Stobierna near Sokołów Małopolski is 464 km, the second section from Rzeszów to Barwinek is 88 km long. On this second section the road is part of the European route 371 . In some sections, the state road has now been replaced by the S19 expressway . Once the expressway is completed, it will disappear from the road network.

history

Some sections of today's road were declared state roads by the Polish Road Act of December 10, 1920. The section from the Polish-Belarusian border near Kuźnica to Białystok was part of the E12 state road. The section between Międzyrzec Podlaski and Radzyń Podlaski was designated State Road 192. The section from Radzyń Podlaski via Lubartów to Lublin was part of State Road 24. The section Lublin - Kraśnik - Janów Lubelski - Nisko - Rzeszów was dedicated as State Road 26.

After the reorganization of the road network in 1985, new state roads were assigned to the road. The section from Kuźnica to Białystok became part of national road 18 . The section from Białystok to Rzeszów was put together to form the new state road 19, which led north of Białystok to the Polish-Lithuanian border crossing at Budzisko . The course of the road between Rzeszów and the Polish-Slovak border near Barwinek was assigned to state road 9 .

With the reform of the numbering on May 9, 2001, the section from Kuźnica to Białystok was now assigned to State Road 19, the previous section from Białystok to Budzisko became part of State Road 8 . On April 10, 2014, part of the previous section of state road 9 between Rzeszów and Barwinek was rededicated as state road 19 in an amendment to the GDDKiA .

After the transfer of traffic to the Kock bypass in the course of the S19 expressway, the old route of the state road was downgraded to a municipal road in 2011 . In 2013, after the completion of the S19 sections from Stobierna to the Rzeszów- Wschód junction and between the Rzeszów-Zachód and Rzeszów-Świlcza junctions, the old route of the national road north of Rzeszów was phased out.

Traffic safety

In order to improve road safety, the Drogi Zaufania (German: "Trust Roads") program was developed by the GDDKiA . As part of this program, various traffic safety measures were taken from 2008 onwards at places with an increased risk of accidents along the state road. The bypasses of Wasilków , Międzyrzec Podlaski and Kock have been implemented, the latter two to be part of the expressway in the future.
