  • The Droga ekspresowa S11 ( Polish for 'expressway S11') is a partially completed, largely planned expressway in Poland between Koszalin and Pyrzowice . It should be about 560 km long and lead through four voivodeships. Much of it follows Landesstraße 11 and connects the Upper Silesian industrial area with the Baltic Sea .

    Planning history

Neither the expressway network map of Poland from 1945 nor that of 1946 contained a route that was to establish the connection planned with today's S11. For the first time in 1963 an expressway was planned between Kołobrzeg via Koszalin to Poznań , but not intended to continue into the Upper Silesian industrial area. In 1971, a line was planned that was very similar to today's S11 route and should lead from Koszalin via Poznań to Katowice . In 1976 the section between Poznań and the Upper Silesian industrial area was no longer available. Nothing changed in 1985 either.

In the first network plan after the political change in Poland, which dates back to 1993, the connection is completely absent. Even three years later, this line is not included. Only in 2001 is another line planned between Kołobrzeg via Koszalin to Poznań, which is now marked as S11. However, the continuation into the Upper Silesian industrial area was also waived here. From 2003, the S11 will finally be included in the network plans as planned today.

    (1) Common section with the A2 motorway

    Poznań-Północ - Poznań-Rokietnica

As part of the Poznań West Bypass (also referred to as Stage 2a), this section runs 7.7 kilometers from the Poznań-Północ junction to the Poznań-Rokietnica junction. It is equipped with two lanes per lane. Construction of this section began on April 14, 2010 with the signing of the contract between GDDKiA and the companies Colas Polska Sp z oo and Strabag . The construction costs were set at 332 million zlotys . The construction time should be 24 months. Accordingly, completion was planned for May 2012 and before the European Football Championship in 2012 . However, construction delays occurred, so the construction work was extended until September 30th. On October 30, the section was opened to traffic, which was restricted to vehicles up to 3.5 tons.

    Poznań-Tarnowo Podgórne - Poznań-Zachód

As part of the Poznań western bypass , this section connects the national road 92 via the Poznań-Tarnowo Podgórne junction with the Poznań-Ławica airport via the junction of the same name and with the A2 motorway and the future S5 expressway via the Poznań-Zachód junction . The section is equipped with two lanes per lane over a length of 14.4 kilometers.

The construction contract with the construction company Skanska SA as Leader and Intercor Sp. Z oo as partner was signed on July 17th, 2009. A 24-month construction period was agreed, which officially began on July 23. The completion should therefore take place in July 2011. However, there were delays, so that the first 8.3 km section between the Poznań-Tarnowo Podgórne and Poznań-Dąbrówka nodes could be opened on November 28, 2011. The construction work on the second section was extended until the European Football Championship in 2012 and finally ended on June 3, 2012. The construction costs amounted to 460 million zlotys.

    particularities

Between the planned junction Piła-Północ and Piła-Wschód, the S11 is to run on a shared section with the S10 expressway . Likewise, the S11 expressway runs between the Poznań-Zachód and Poznań-Krzesiny junctions on a shared section with the A2 motorway and the S5 expressway .

In January 2007 an "Association of Municipalities, Powiats and Voivodships, Route S11 '" was founded. Members are cities, municipalities, powiats and voivodeships along the planned route of the S11. Your goal is to speed up the construction of the road.
