The Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (German: General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways ; abbreviation: GDDKiA ) is a central authority of the government of Poland for the administration of the Droga krajowa and for the implementation of the state budget in this area. It was founded in 2002 and reports to the Ministry of Infrastructure . Its headquarters are in Warsaw , with a further 16 regional offices mainly in the major cities of the individual voivodeships . The current General Director of GDDKiA is Tomasz Żuchowski.

    history

The authority was founded on April 1, 2002 by the Ministry of Infrastructure from the merger of the General Directorate for Public Roads (pl .: Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Publicznych ) and the Agency for the Construction and Operation of Highways (pl .: Agencja Budowy i Eksploatacji Autostrad ) .

In 2009 GDDKiA celebrated the 190th anniversary of the introduction of a central road administration in Poland. The establishment of the Jeneral Directorate for Roads and Bridges of the Polish Kingdom (pl .: Dyrekcja Jeneralna Dróg i Mostów Królestwa Polskiego ) in 1819 marked the beginning of a central road administration in the then Polish territories .

In 2010, the NIK accused the GDDKiA officials of abuse of power and negligence , which led to considerable losses in the state treasury in the reimbursement system for free motorways for cars that had already paid the toll .

In August 2010, two people from the management of the GDDKiA area in Katowice were arrested by the ABW on charges of alleged corruption , which is said to have lasted from 1998 to 2007 .

In 2019 the 200th anniversary of the introduction of a central road administration was celebrated.
