  • Under construction
  • In planning
  • The Droga krajowa 79 (DK79) runs from Warsaw to Bytom , is about 445 km long and runs through four provinces.

It runs from Warsaw south to Sandomierz and swings there west to Bytom. It connects Warsaw and Krakow but takes an eastern course than the DK7 . In the further course it connects the Krakow region with Katowice , but has lost its importance with the completion of the A4 in this area.

In Katowice, part of the road runs on Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa .

    history

In 1827 only the short section between Warsaw and Piaseczno was already developed as a road . From there, the Warsaw-Lubliner Strasse , which was then under construction, was to be continued to the Austrian border near Lemberg.

The road from Kraków via Trzebinia to Chrzanów was declared a state road (droga państwowa) by a decree of the President of October 11, 1927 .

In 1985 the Polish road network was reorganized. The previous state roads (droga państwowa) were renamed and renumbered as state roads (droga krajowa) . Since 1986 there have been three state roads on the route of today's DK 79:

    • DK 723 Warsaw - Kozienice - Sandomierz
    • DK 777 Sandomierz - Połaniec - Katowice
    • DK 914 Krakow - Chrzanów - Katowice - Bytom

In 2003 the numbering of the road network was changed so that all state roads were marked with two-digit numbers and all provincial roads with three-digit numbers. At that time, the three above-mentioned streets were merged to form DK 79.
