The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1255. In 1430 the place received the city charter . During the third partition of Poland , the place became part of Austria .

traffic
State road 79 ( droga krajowa 79 ) runs through the city . In a northerly direction it leads through Sandomierz after about 30 kilometers and in the south after 15 kilometers through Połaniec . Voivodship road 765, coming from the west, also joins the state road. Among other things, this leads through Staszów after about 20 kilometers .
The nearest international airport is Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, 60 kilometers southeast .
