The Droga krajowa 55 (DK 55) is a country road in Poland . It runs in a north-south direction from the north-east of the Pomeranian Voivodeship to the north of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and runs through the districts of Nowy Dwór Gdański (Tiegenhof) , Malbork (Marienburg in West Prussia) , Sztum (Stuhm) with a total length of 123 km , Kwidzyn (Marienwerder in West Prussia) , Grudziądz (Graudenz) and Chełmno (Kulm in West Prussia) and connects the expressway S 7 ( European route 77 ) with the A1 motorway ( European route 75 ) and the national roads DK 16 , DK 22 (former German Reichsstraße) 1 ), DK 90 and DK 91 .
history
Origins
The northern section of the route had belonged to East Prussia since 1920 and was known as Reichsstraße 129 until 1945 . The southern section of the route belonged to the territory of the Second Polish Republic between 1920 and 1939 .
The road from Thorn or Stolno to the then German-Polish state border between Graudenz and Garnsee was declared a state road (droga państwowa) by the Polish Road Act of December 10, 1920 .
Previous routes and names
In 1985 the Polish road network was reorganized. The previous state roads (droga państwowa) were renamed and renumbered as state roads (droga krajowa) . The road from Nowy Dwór Gdański (Tiegenhof) to Stolno was called Droga krajowa No. 514 from 1986 .
In 2003 the numbering of the road network was changed so that all state roads were marked with two-digit numbers and all provincial roads with three-digit numbers. Therefore the DK 514 was renamed to DK 55 .
