history

Bronisław Markiewicz Sanctuary

According to Adam Fastnacht , the village could have existed as an ethnically Polish settlement before 1340, in the time of the Principality of Halych-Volodymyr , but was only mentioned in 1358 in the sales document (incorrectly dated in the copy to the year 1348) of the Schulzenamt in the village Rogy (Rogi) mentioned as an already existing place Mesczcze (about Mieśćce, until today a cluster village ). After that, the place lost its importance due to the newly founded town of Krosno . The name Miejsce is related to the Polish word Miasto (city) and changed from Messto [?] (1413), Mescze , Mesce (1423), Mesczecz (1427), Myestcze (1429), Myescze (1433) to Myesczcze (1462) ). Before the death of King Casimir the Great, a Schulzenamt was introduced, so the village was transferred to German law. The Roman Catholic Church was mentioned in 1427.

In the 15th century, the area was partially settled by Forest Germans and the Nazi historian Kurt Lück described Miejsce as a German village , but the researchers Adam Fastnacht and Wojciech Blajer saw three (only four known) German surnames and some field names of German origin only an insufficient indication for a final assessment (as also in the examples of the villages Głowienka, Wrocanka and Rogi).

The village initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Ruthenian Voivodeship , Sanok region . During the first partition of Poland , Miejsce Piastowe became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). From 1855 Miejsce Piastowe belonged to the Krosno district .

In 1893, Bronisław Markiewicz founded a nursing home for children, only afterwards the adjective Piastowy (from piastować , care, care) was added to the place name in 1897.

After the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy , Miejsce Piastowe came to Poland in 1918. This was only interrupted by the German occupation of Poland in World War II . From 1975 to 1998 Miejsce Piastowe was part of the Krosno Voivodeship .
