In 1136 the Veche took over power in Novgorod. It forbade the princes to have property in the city. The Jaroslaw Hof was first mentioned in writing in 1149. Since then it has been the meeting place of the Veche next to the St. Nicholas Cathedral.
1478 demanded Ivan III. he returned the Yaroslav farm as his property. Since then, the court has been the seat of the Novgorod governors. In 1572 under Ivan IV new buildings were built.
Gostinyj dvor was built in the 17th and 18th centuries . In 1771 the Putewoi Palace was built for the coronation of Catherine II .
