The Ropa , Wisłok , Wisłoka , Jasiołka , San and numerous other rivers flow through the basin .

The Sanoker Plain is densely populated and historically belongs to the Sanoker Land . The Sub-Carpathian Tricity, which consists of Krosno , Jasło and Sanok, is one of the larger cities . Other important places in the basin are Gorlice and Biecz as well as the health resorts Iwonicz-Zdrój and Rymanów-Zdrój .

The fertile region is otherwise characterized by agriculture. Due to a mild microclimate, it is now one of the largest wine-growing regions in Poland again. The oldest vineyards in Poland were established here in the 1980s, after viticulture in the northern Subcarpathian region largely came to a standstill in the early modern period due to the Little Ice Age .

Together with the neighboring areas, it belongs to the oldest oil production area in the world. The oil wells are now largely exhausted. The Museum of the Oil and Gas Industry in Bóbrka recalls the beginnings of the petriolium industry in the mid-19th century.

One of the ethnic groups that inhabit the Sanok region are the descendants of the Forest Germans . The Sanoker Land was the central settlement area of the forest Germans, who were settled here by Casimir the Great after 1340 .

traffic

In the 19th century, the Galician Transversal Railway was built through the Sanok lowlands . Highway 28 runs parallel to it in a west-east direction.
