Spa gardens

Iwonicz-Zdrój is a town in the Powiat Krośnieński of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland . The health resort is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 11,000 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The city is located in the south-east of Poland, about 20 kilometers north of the state border between Poland and Slovakia in the Lower Beskids .

history

The village of Iwonicz was visited by many spa guests as early as the 17th century. The spa developed in the 19th century under the noble Załuski family . In 1870 Iwonicz was visited by 815 guests, but in 1884 a train station was opened in Łężany on the Galician Transversal Railway Line and the annual number of visitors increased from 1,283 in 1880 to 5,468 in 1909, which is the third place in all of Galicia after Zakopane and Krynica was. This number of visitors in the interwar period reached 19,000. The place was particularly popular with Jews.

In 1956 Iwonicz was administratively divided into two parts, the Iwonicz-Zdrój health resort, which received town charter in 1973 , and the Iwonicz village (- Wieś ).

Buildings
