Sokółka ( Lithuanian Sokulka ; Belarusian Сакулка / Sakulka ) is a city in the powiat Sokólski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the Powiat and the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 25,800 inhabitants.
history
Sokółka was founded in the 16th century and the architectural system in the town center with the market, adjoining streets and houses reminiscent of the times of Anton Tyzenhauz is still preserved today. The city has more than 18,000 inhabitants and is located in the immediate vicinity of Hrodna and Lida in Belarus. The international road and railway line runs through the city from Warsaw to Vilnius , Riga and Saint Petersburg, as well as to Minsk and Moscow .
Sokółka is a city with a varied landscape, hills, forests and unspoiled nature. The churches and museums are worth seeing. Sokolka horses are bred in and around the city. Every year exhibitions, auctions and parades are organized by horse-drawn carriage. Markets take place on Mondays.
