General election
A general election is carried out in Switzerland to appoint a commander in chief for the army. There have been four general elections since the state was first established in 1848:
- General election on October 21, 1847 , for the Sonderbund War
- General election on July 19, 1870 , for the Franco-German War
- General election on August 3, 1914 , for the First World War
- General election on August 30, 1939 , for World War II
