The origin of the white stove , even Kocherursprung called, is located east-above the Aalen district Unterkochen at an altitude of about 560 meters above sea level. NN in the Jura of the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg .
Surname
Due to the steep gradient in the headwaters, the water foams white, which is why it is called the White Cooker .
The grammatically incorrect terms " Weißer Kocher Ursprung " and " Weißer Kocherursprung " are often found on maps for the origin of the White Cooker.
Data
The total flow of these springs from the so-called deep karst fluctuated between 100-2,900 l / s in the years 1960–1972 with an average value of 420 l / s. There are several springs there, the main spring is probably at 508 m , further up on the slope there are others, e.g. Partly only pour intermittently. During a measurement on 19./30. April 1974 the water temperature was 8.6 ° C and the pH 7.1.
Character and environment
Over a length of several hundred meters in a narrow valley there are numerous small karst spring outlets from the limestones of the lower rock limestone formation of the White Jura , which feed the White Kocher . In summer the upper main spring is mostly dried up. The medium, year-round spring is the strongest of the many springs . The spring water of the lower main spring rises directly from the slope and flows for a few meters parallel to the Weißen Kocher. Further down in the valley there are other secondary springs.
The origin of the Kocher is a scenic area. There you can examine interesting rock formations and discover rare animal and plant species. So are u. a. the common raven , the dipper and the peregrine falcon . Tall trees and rare types of grass, bushes and flowers thrive on the steep slopes and along the banks of the stream. In the upper area of the Kocher origin is the Schonwald Kocher origin (approx. 20.1 ha.), In which the trees are left to grow.
At the eaves of the mountain tongue to the left of the gorge of the Quellbach is the original rock , a formation of several needle-shaped individual rocks, on whose western spur lies the ruins of the Kocherburg . Right of the valley protruding pulpit rock in the air, a single standing, desk-shaped dolomite block . A steep path leads from the back valley up to the walled entrance of the tunnel of the former Härtsfeldbahn . Once built for this narrow-gauge railway , a 25-meter-high and 70-meter-long viaduct still crosses a small northern side valley of the White Kocher about one kilometer to the west.
The famous Kocher-Jagst cycle path also passes very close to the Kocher spring .
The source area is therefore a popular destination. The White Kocherursprung is one of the recognized objects of Geotourism of Baden-Wuerttemberg .
The source of the White Cooker has been recognized as an important geotope and geopoint of the UNESCO Geopark Swabian Alb since June 2020 .
