The White Kocher is the right, shorter of the two major source rivers of the Kocher . At undercooking it unites with the black cooker .
Naming
The steep gradient in the area of the headwaters results in white foaming of the water, which has led to the name White Cooker .
However, historical maps, namely the Walch map from 1804 and the Majersche map from 1705, show that the names of the source rivers of the Kocher were exchanged over time. There, the Oberkochen tributary, today's black cooker, is referred to as the “red boiler” and the Unterkochen tributary, today's white boiler, is referred to as the “black cooker”.
geography
course
The origin of the White Cooker is above the Aalen district of Unterkochen in a narrow valley. There it meanders through its spring gorge between moss-covered rocks. On its way to Unterkochen the stream deposits limestone tuff . A side arm branches off at the Unterkochen tennis facility. There is also a powder mill once notorious for its many accidents . Shortly afterwards the brook unites again and takes its only tributary, the Häselbach flowing in from the left . On the mountain spur of the Mündungswinkel lies the ruins of the Kocherburg, which dates back to the early Bronze Age . After the Bischof-Hefele-Weg , the stream branches off again for a few hundred meters. There is an iron forge founded in 1522 , as well as a formerly well-known paper mill . Below the district, the White Kocher enters the floodplain of the Black Kocher coming from Oberkochen and joins it at the Neukochen weir to form the Kocher . The confluence was renatured in 2015 and relocated about 100 m to the northeast. Where the white cooker ran to the west until the redesign, the black cooker now flows to the east.
Tributaries
- Häselbach ( left )
Data
The White Cooker has a catchment area of around 9 km² and a mean discharge (MQ) of 400 l / s.
environmental Protection
In the area of the headwaters, the white cooker was used industrially. Papermaking and textile finishing companies used to pollute the water. It has since recovered as a result of environmental protection regulations. Its water quality is grade II.
