Kłecko ( German Kletzko , 1940-1945 Klötzen ) is a city in the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 7,471 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

The place lies between the Paulsdorfer See and the Kletzkoer See.
history
In the 9th century, a fortified settlement was built on the site of today's Kłecko.
A brick castle was built in the 13th century. In 1255 Boleslaus the Pious received the town charter and Henryk Strophisus became the town's first bailiff . The city was destroyed in 1331 by fighting with the Teutonic Order .
In 1501 the city was destroyed again, this time by a great fire, but rebuilt.
During the Swedish-Polish War , a battle took place near the town in 1656, led by Stefan Czarniecki on the Polish side .
In 1793 the city came under Prussian rule during the Second Partition of Poland .
From 1815 to 1918 Kletzko belonged to the district Gniezno in the administrative district of Bromberg . In 1894 a narrow-gauge railway was built to Gnesen and in 1914 it was connected to the standard- gauge railway . During the Wielkopolska Uprising , residents of the city took part in the fighting.
On 8./9. In September 1939 there were fighting around the city between the Wehrmacht and the Polish army. On September 10th the Wehrmacht marched in and occupied Kłecko. On January 21, 1945, the Red Army marched into the city.
During an administrative reform, the Poznan Voivodeship was formed, which included the city's territory. After its dissolution, Kłecko was part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship from 1999.

State road 190 runs through the town. It connects Gniezno in the south-east and Wągrowiec in the north-west. The Poznań-Ławica Airport is located about 50 kilometers west.
