The powiat Nowotarski is a powiat (district) in the northwestern part of the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship - located in the southern part of Lesser Poland in the Beskids . It borders in the north on the Powiat Sucha , Myślenice , Limanowa and Nowy Sącz and in the south on the Powiat Tatrzański . The state border with Slovakia runs in the west and east .

The powiat comprises 14 municipalities , including one urban municipality (gmina miejska), two urban-and-rural municipalities (gmina miejsko-wiejska) and eleven rural communities (gmina wiejska). The places Nowy Targ , Szczawnica and Rabka-Zdrój have city rights.
