history

Gothic Church of St. Nicholas in Tarczyn, view of the choir

Tarczyn was first mentioned in 1259. The settlement was at the crossroads of the then important trade routes from Radom to Warsaw , Lublin and Łowicz . 1353 the place was the town charter by Magdeburg rights by Casimir I left. Tarczyn has also been a marketplace since the 13th century. In the 15th century Tarczyn already had two churches, St. Nikolai and the Dorotheenkirche . Tarczyn lost most of its inhabitants in the 17th century after a brief economic boom due to wars with Sweden and other neighbors. The city had only about 200 people at the end of the fighting. Another setback was the city fire of 1704. After a few years of Brandenburg rule, the Polish crown took over the area again. The city began to recover. In the 19th century, as in all of Poland, there were revolts against the Russian occupiers in Tarczyn. After the Second World War , the city had to be rebuilt. Fruit and vegetable processing is an important industry today.

traffic

The Tarczyn railway station, located south of the city, is on the Skierniewice – Łuków railway line, which is only used for freight traffic .

The narrow-gauge railway Warszawa – Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą , the station of which is to the east of the city, is still in museum traffic to the north, towards Piaseczno , while the line is closed to the south, towards Grójec .
