Pishchany ( Ukrainian Піщани ; Russian Песчаны Pestschany , Polish Tatarsko ) is a village in the western Ukrainian Lviv Oblast with about 450 inhabitants (2006).
Pishchany was founded as Tatarsko in 1862 and received its current name in 1955. The village in Stryi district is located on the banks of the Stryj River and on the Stryj – Ternopil railway line 10 km northeast of the Stryj district center and about 80 km south of the Lviv oblast center . Administratively, the village belongs to the district council of the neighboring village of Chodowytschi in the north .
Personalities
The Ukrainian ethnographer, folklorist, composer and musicologist Filaret Kolessa was born in the village in 1871 .
