The Düsseldorf Blades were an American football women's team. They were founded in 2009 as the successor to the Düsseldorf Panther Ladies. The majority of the players who are now active in the Blades were previously also active in the Panther Ladies. The blades formed the women's department in the Düsseldorf Bulldozer Association .

The Düsseldorf Blades belonged to the American Football Association Germany (AFVD), which organizes the league operations. From 2010 to 2014 1st women's Bundesliga and played several times in the Ladies Bowl, the German championship in women's football.

2010 season

The original goal of the 2010 season was to establish itself first in the league and achieve a balanced season with as many defeats as wins. But with sovereign performances against Cologne (48: 8, 24: 8) and Munich (22: 0), the play-offs for the German championship were within reach. A perfect season was even achieved with a close 8: 7 away game with the Munich-Cowboys -Ladies and two further - so thought impossible - victories against the runner-up Nürnberg Hurricanes (20: 7 home, 14:12 away). This was followed by an impressive 40-0 in the semifinals against the Hamburg Amazons, whose offense only managed 4 first downs, which proves the strength of the Düsseldorf defense. At the same time, the offense led by quarterback Claudia Baack pleased with its varied and powerful attacking game. With this high victory they qualified for the 19th Ladies' Bowl, which was held on September 19, 2010 in Düsseldorf. Here you were only defeated by the old and new champions Berlin in extra time with 28:34.

successes

In their first year, the Düsseldorf Blades immediately became German runners-up. In the Ladies' Bowl, the blades were defeated by serial champion Berlin Kobras Ladies, who had long been considered overpowering, only in overtime with a score of 28:34 and, despite the defeat, once again confirmed a strong season. Offense-line player Jessica Neues was voted the most valuable player (MVP) on the blades side. In addition, the Blades have the best defense in the league, which only allowed 78 points in eight games (including the semi-finals and the Ladies' Bowl). Another great success was the participation of nine Blades players in a selection camp for the newly founded women's national team of the AFVD. Of these nine active players, Silke Huskobla (Offense Line), Celina Martin (Defensive Back) and Jessica Neues (Defense Line) were finally appointed to the German national team. They achieved a good 4th place at the 1st Women's World Cup in American Football History, which took place from June 27th to July 3rd, 2010 in Stockholm / Sweden.

In the following year the final of 2010 was repeated. This time the Blades fought against the Kobra Ladies in Berlin for the German championship title. In a strong game, however, the title stayed in Berlin after a 42:21. MVP of the Düsseldorf Blades was QB Claudia Baack, who served WR Valerie Bauer with three touchdown passes.

In 2012, the record champions Berlin were beaten for the first time in the season, but they again lost to the Kobra Ladies in the Ladies Bowl in Frankfurt (Oder). In 2013 the Blades reached the playoffs again, but had to admit defeat to the Crailsheim Hurricanes in the semifinals.

In 2014, after the first lost game against the Munich Cowboys Ladies, the team had to be withdrawn from the game due to injury and failure. The Düsseldorf Bulldozer stopped training the blades at the end of 2014. Some of the remaining players played from 2015 onwards with the Mülheim Shamrocks or the newly founded women's team of the Düsseldorf Panthers.
