The VTR Open in 2012 were a tennis tournament, which from January 30 to February 5, 2012 in Viña del Mar took place. It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on clay court. In the same week the Open Sud de France and in Zagreb the PBZ Zagreb Indoors were played in Montpellier , which, like the VTR Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

The tournament was held in Santiago de Chile in 2010 and 2011 , previously it had already taken place in Viña del Mar from 2001 to 2009. Last year's individual winner, Tommy Robredo , was unable to defend his title due to injury. The title went to the top seeded Argentinian Juan Mónaco , who was able to assert himself in the final against his compatriot Carlos Berlocq in three sets .

In doubles, Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares were the defending champions, but this year they both played with new partners and were eliminated with them in the quarter-finals. Tournament winners were the unseeded Frederico Gil and Daniel Gimeno Traver through a final victory in three sets against Pablo Andújar and Carlos Berlocq .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
