Ahmet Aslan (* in the eastern Turkish province of Tunceli ) is a Kurdish - Zaza singer and musician.

biography

During his school days in Diyarbakir , Ahmet Aslan began to play the three-string Kurdish long-necked lute tembur and became involved in painting. After studying at the Istanbul Conservatory , he emigrated from Turkey. Aslan continued studying music at the Rotterdam Conservatory and now lives like his cousin Mikail Aslan in Germany, where he initially played acoustic guitar instead of the tembur and only found his way back to the instrument of his homeland after a while. In 2003 he worked in Mikail Aslan's group in the production of the CD Kilitê Kou . A year later followed the first CD Va u Waxt of his own group, which like Veyvê Milaketu (2007), Na-Mükemmel - Imperfect (2015) and the other CDs were published by Kalan Müzik .

Ahmet Aslan usually plays the tembur and guitar with the singing voice , occasionally also the Turkish long-necked lute cura and bağlama (both variants of the saz ). His songs sound calm and melancholy, he often switches to his head voice in between . Accompaniment with acoustic instruments is economical and is limited to the plucking and percussion mentioned, only rarely does a string instrument appear in the background or the voice is multiplied by overdubs . The double reed instrument mey can be heard on some recordings .

In his song lyrics sung on Zaza he deals with the mythical tradition of his Alevi faith, for example in the song Veyvê Milaketu ("Dance of the Angels") he revives the old, meaningful, cosmogonic narratives such as childhood memories as images of a vanished happy world. In Germany, Ahmet Aslan, his cousin Mikail and similarly the Turkish filmmaker Fatih Akın stand for the preservation of the local cultural tradition. He is counted among the well-known singers in Germany who dedicate themselves to the Kurdish tradition and, starting from Germany, has also become known in Turkey.

In 2007 Aslan sang in the CD production Isik Preludleri - Siirler - 1 by the Greek composer Antonis Anissegos .

Members of the 2007 Ahmet Aslan ensemble were Kemal Dinç ( bağlama ), Fethi Ok (percussion) and Klaus Bittner (guitar). Around this time he performed live with Selman Aslan ( tembur and cura ), Ulas Dilekli ( tembur and vocals), Yilmaz Yurtsever (percussion) and Mehmet Celik (electric bass).

In 2014 Aslan composed the music for the Turkish film Iyi Biri by the director Ayhan Sonyürek together with Ali Ekber Kayış (member of the Abdal Group ), which premiered at the 51st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival .
