ZaZa (born June 5, 1951 in Munich ; actually Peter La Bonté ) is a former German pop singer . He became known in the summer of 1982 with the song Zauberstab , which is considered a classic of the Neue Deutsche Welle .

biography

At the age of 12, La Bonté became a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen . After leaving school, he settled for a commercial artist trained and worked at Siemens AG , later he designed as a freelance graphic album covers. He continued his musical career from 1974 as a singer and drummer in various Munich rock groups. In 1978 he joined the reggae rock band The Nighthawks . However, three years later he went his own way again.

Under the stage name ZaZa, an androgynous mirror creature, he published the single Zauberstab at the height of the Neue Deutsche Welle . With her he rose to number 8 in the German singles charts in August 1982. The lyrics felt as slippery - in the chorus ZaZa sings "if I get you, my wand will show you love" - led several radio stations to ban the song from their programs. In the film Die Flambierte Frau , however, the title was played.

For ZaZa it remained the only big hit. The follow-up single only barely made it into the charts, with no further success.

New recordings of Zaza titles

Probably the most successful new recording was made by Slađana Milošević . With her project Neutral Design she took up the title of Zaza the light of Cairo anew. The title became a huge success in Yugoslavia in 1983 .

In 2006 the German rock band Oomph! published a cover version of ZaZa's hit for their best-of album Delikatessen . Another cover version comes from Atrocity , which appeared on the album Gemini . In 2008 Ralf Donis , former front man of Love Is Colder Than Death , covered the song. Further versions of Zauberstab were made by John Starlight , Jürgen G-Punkt , Zack Zack , Yü̈ksel D. feat.
