The Movistar Open 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place from February 2nd to 8th, 2009 in Viña del Mar. It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on a clay court. The same week the SA Tennis Open was played in Johannesburg and the PBZ Zagreb Indoors in Zagreb , which, like the Movistar Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Defending champion in the singles was Fernando González , who was able to defend his title. In the final, he defeated the Argentinian José Acasuso in two sets 6: 1, 6: 3. He won the last of his eleven individual titles in his career. In doubles, José Acasuso and Sebastián Prieto went to defend their title, but were eliminated in the first round. In the final, Pablo Cuevas and Brian Dabul beat Michal Mertiňák and František Čermák 6: 3, 6: 3.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 32 players, that of the double competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 445,000 and total financial liabilities were $ 496,750.

The qualification took place from January 31 to February 2, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
