Andy Murray was the defending champion in the singles, but he did not participate in the tournament that year. In the final, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the French duel against Michaël Llodra in two sets with 7: 5 and 7: 6 3 . For Tsonga, this was the second ATP title this year and his fourth overall. In doubles, Martin Damm and Pavel Vízner were the defending champions. Both competed with a different partner this year and both were eliminated in the first round. In the double final, Arnaud Clément and Michaël Llodra won against Julian Knowle and Andy Ram in three sets with 3: 6, 6: 3 and [10: 8].
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 512,750 euros, the total financial liabilities were 576,000 euros.
The qualification took place from February 14th to 16th, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who moved into the main draw via qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. Prize money for the double competition applies per team.
