The Internazionali BNL d'Italia 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place in Rome from April 25th to May 3rd, 2009 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on a clay court. This season it was the fifth of nine tournaments in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category .

Defending champion in the singles was Novak Đoković , who reached the final again this year. With Rafael Nadal he faced an opponent in the final who had already won the Rome Masters three times. Also this year the Spaniard was able to win the tournament with 7: 6 2 , 6: 2 and made himself the only record holder of the tournament to date. In the current year, this was his fifth title on the ATP Tour and his 36th title in his career. The American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won the doubles title last year. This year they reached the final again, but lost it against last year's finalists Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić in two sets with 7: 6 5 , 6: 3.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize money was 2,227,500 euros; the total financial liabilities were 2,750,000 euros.
