Christophe Philippe Rochus (born December 15, 1978 in Namur ) is a former Belgian tennis player .

He celebrated his greatest success on the ATP Tour in 2000 when he and Julien Boutter won the doubles competition at the Chennai tournament. In singles, he was able to reach a final on the tour twice with Valencia in 2003 and Rotterdam in 2006, but he lost both. In doubles he also failed twice in a final ( Kitzbühel 2005 and Doha 2006).

He reached his highest individual world ranking in May 2006 with 38th place.

Grand Slam record

Rochus first took part in a Grand Slam tournament at the 1999 French Open . In the first round he was defeated by the French Arnaud Di Pasquale in four sets. At the Australian Open 2000 he defeated Albert Costa , Kevin Ullyett and Max Mirny before losing to Russian Jewgewni Kafelnikow in three sets in the round of 16 . In the same year Rochus reached the second round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament by beating Mikael Tillström . In the second round, however, he lost against Sjeng Schalken from the Netherlands in three sets. At the US Open he had to admit defeat to the American Justin Gimelstob in the first round .

At the beginning of 2001 Rochus was able to move into the third round of the Australian Open after defeating Justin Gimelstob and André Sá . However, against the Slovak Dominik Hrbatý he lost in three sets. At the French Open in the same year Rochus had to travel home after the first round and a loss to Guillermo Cañas . Also in the first round at Wimbledon there was nothing for the Belgian against Roger Federer . At the US Open 2001 he reached the second round after beating Sergi Bruguera , but lost to Patrick Rafter in three sets.

In 2002 Rochus was able to survive the first round of the Australian Open against Raemon Sluiter , but against Marat Safin he could not do anything in the second round and lost in three sets. At the French Open, he was eliminated in the first round against Amir Hadad from Israel . At Wimbledon, Christophe Rochus played against his brother Olivier , to whom he was defeated in four sets.

In 2003 Rochus reached the second round of the Australian Open again after beating Georgian Irakli Labadze . However , he was eliminated from Nicolas Escudé . At the French Open Rochus was eliminated in the second round against the Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui . In Wimbledon, he did not get past the first round, against the Austrian Stefan Koubek he lost in four sets.

After Rochus did not get past the first round in other Grand Slam tournaments, he made it into the second round at the French Open in 2004 after beating Marc López , but in the second round he lost to Albert Costa in three sets. At the Australian Open 2005 he was also able to reach the second round with a win against Albert Montañés , but he could not defeat Nikolai Dawydenko . After a long dry spell Rochus made it to the last 64 players at the French Open 2006, but had to give up due to an injury when the score was 2: 5 against Rubén Ramírez Hidalgo .
