The Brisbane International 2009 was a men's tennis tournament that took place from January 4th to 11th, 2009 in Brisbane . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open was played in Doha and the Chennai Open in Chennai , which, like the Brisbane International, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category . A women's tournament of the WTA Tour 2009 also took place in Brisbane .

The last winner of the tournament in men's singles was Guillaume Raoux , who won the tournament in 1992. The duo Steve DeVries and David Macpherson won the tournament in doubles . Between 1993 and 2008 the tournament was not held in Brisbane. Radek Štěpánek won this year's individual final against Fernando Verdasco 3: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4. This won him his third individual title on the ATP tour. In doubles, the pairing Marc Gicquel and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won against Verdasco and Mischa Zverev 6: 4, 6: 3.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was $ 433,000; total financial liabilities were $ 484,750.
