The BMW Open 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place in Munich from May 4th to 10th . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on sand. In the same week, the Estoril Open was played in Oeiras and the Serbia Open in Belgrade , which, like the BMW Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Last year's winner in the individual was Fernando González , who did not defend his title. In the final, fourth seeding list Tomáš Berdych won in three sets 6: 4, 4: 6, 7: 6 5 against the unseeded Michail Juschny . With this Berdych won his fifth career title. Michael Berrer and Rainer Schüttler won the doubles title last year, but they did not compete again either. In the final, the Czech duo Jan Hernych and Ivo Minář prevailed against Ashley Fisher and Jordan Kerr 6: 4, 6: 4.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 398,250 euros; the total financial liabilities were 450,000 euros.

qualification

The qualification took place from May 2-4, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
