The Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place from April 20th to 26th, 2009 in Barcelona . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played outdoors on a clay court. The tournament was part of the ATP World Tour 500 category . It took place between the two Masters tournaments in Monaco and Rome .

Defending champion in the singles was Rafael Nadal , who had won the tournament in the previous four years. The Spaniard dominated the tournament again this year and won the final against his compatriot David Ferrer in straight sets. This year this was his fourth title on the ATP Tour and his 35th title in his career. In doubles, the American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan were defending champions. They were eliminated in the semifinals against Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles that year . This in turn lost the final against the number two seeded duo Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić in two sets.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each got a bye into the second round.
