Defending champion in the singles was Fernando Verdasco , who did not take part in the tournament this year. In this year's final, the top seeded Russian Nikolai Dawydenko clearly won against Juan Carlos Ferrero in two sets with 6: 3 and 6: 0. He won his second title of the year and 16th of his career. In doubles, Michal Mertiňák and Petr Pála were the defending champions. They didn't compete together this year. While Pála no longer took part in the tournament, Mertiňák was able to win the tournament again with his new partner František Čermák . In the final, they beat the pairing Johan Brunström and Jean-Julien Rojer in straight sets 6: 4 and 6: 4.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 398,500 euros; the total financial liabilities were 450,000 euros.
The qualification took place from July 25-27, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
