Croatia Open 2000

The Croatia Open 2000 was the 10th edition of the tennis clay court tournament in Umag . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place from July 17th to 23rd, 2000 together with the Energis Dutch Open in Amsterdam and the Mercedes Cup 2000 , which was part of the higher category of the International Series Gold . The prize pool for both singles and doubles was $ 375,000. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The defending champion in the singles was the Swede Magnus Norman , who did not compete this year. Instead, the second seeded Chilean Marcelo Ríos won his only title of the season and the 16th title of his career.

The two unseeded Spaniards Álex Lópex Morón and Alberto Portas won the doubles , succeeding their compatriot Javier Sánchez and the Argentine Mariano Puerta . While Sánchez did not start this year, Puerta made it to the finals in singles and in doubles with his final opponent Ríos as a wild card holder to the quarter-finals. For the Spanish pair it was the first double success of their careers.
