The Franklin Templeton Tennis Classic 2000 was the 13th edition of the tennis hard court tournament in Scottsdale . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the Cerveza Club Columbia Open in Bogotá from March 6th to 13th, 2000. The prize money was $ 350,000 for both the singles and doubles. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings. The first eight seeded single players or the first four seeded double pairings received a bye into the second round.

The defending champion of the individual competition was the American Jan-Michael Gambill , who did not compete this year. Instead, sixth seed Australian Lleyton Hewitt won his third title of the season and the fifth title of his career.

The two unseeded local heroes Jared Palmer and Richey Reneberg won in doubles , successfully defending his title from last year. In 1999, however, he started with Justin Gimelstob , who did not start this year. For Palmer it was the first title of the year and the 14th of his career, while for Reneberg it was the only title in 2000, but was already the 22nd title of his career. It was the fourth joint title of the two double specialists.
