The Gerry Weber Open 2000 was the 8th edition of the tennis lawn tournament in the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the Stella Artois Grass Championships in London from June 12th to 18th, 2000. Both tournaments were considered preparatory tournaments for the Wimbledon Championships . The prize pool for both singles and doubles was $ 975,000. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The defending champion in the singles was the German Nicolas Kiefer , who was eliminated in the quarter-finals this year in second place. Instead, his compatriot David Prinosil won the third and final individual title of his career and the first in the 2000 season . He entered the tournament with a wild card .

The three seeded Swedes Nicklas Kulti and Mikael Tillström won in doubles , taking over from their compatriot Jonas Björkman and Patrick Rafter from Australia. The defending champions were eliminated by four seeded in the semifinals against Mahesh Bhupathi and Prinosil. The German was in the finals in both competitions of the tournament. It was the second title of the Swedish double constellation this year, as well as the eleventh career title for Kulti and the sixth for Tillström.
