Pieter "Piet" Norval (born April 7, 1970 in Bellville ) is a former South African tennis player .

Career

Since the beginning of his professional career in 1987, Norval played almost exclusively in doubles; as a single player he only played 16 matches. In doubles, he often played with Wayne Ferreira , with whom he won the 1991 tournament in Key Biscayne and reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon , which was lost 2: 6, 4: 6, 6: 7 to Javier Frana and Leonardo Lavalle . In 1992 he competed with Ferreira at the Summer Olympics . They were able to reach the final, but ultimately failed to Boris Becker and Michael Stich in four sets.

Other long-term double partners were Hendrik Jan Davids , Menno Oosting , Neil Broad , Kevin Ullyett and Donald Johnson . Norval had his most successful time towards the end of his career when he won four tournaments with Johnson. He was also able to win the mixed final of the French Open in 1999 together with Katarina Srebotnik .
