Heineken Trophy 2000 / men

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heineken Trophy 2000 was the 11th edition of the tennis lawn tournament in Rosmalen near 's-Hertogenbosch . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the Nottingham Open from June 19 to 25, 2000, exactly one week before the Wimbledon Championships . As a result, both tournaments were the last preparatory tournaments for this Grand Slam . The prize money for both the singles and doubles tournaments was $ 375,000. 32 players competed against each other in singles and 16 pairings in doubles.

The successful defending champion in the individual was the third-placed Australian Patrick Rafter , who was able to win this tournament for the third time in a row, with which he still holds the record today. This was his first and only triumph of the season and the tenth of his career overall.

The two seeded Czechs Martin Damm and Cyril Suk won in doubles , succeeding the 1998 winners Guillaume Roux and Jan Siemerink . In 1999 the double final could not take place due to rain. Roux did not appear this year, while Siemerink, as a wild card holder alongside Sjeng Schalken, was eliminated in the first round. For Damm it was the third title of the year with changing partners and the 18th success of his career, for Suk it was the first title of the season and the 21st of his career. It was the second joint tour success of the two Czechs.
