Peter Wessels (born May 7, 1978 in Zwolle ) is a former Dutch tennis player .

Career

Peter Wessels won a total of ten titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in his career , six of them in singles and four more in doubles. He achieved his only title win on the ATP World Tour in 2000 when he defeated Jens Knippschild 7: 6, 3 , 6: 3 in the final in Newport . In 2007, he moved as a qualifier once again reach the final of a grass tournament one: In 's-Hertogenbosch he defeated in the semifinals to top-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo with 6: 3 and 6: 3, had in the subsequent final against Croatian Ivan Ljubicic but with 6: 7 5 , 6: 4 and 6: 7 4 accept a narrow defeat.

At Grand Slam tournaments , he achieved his best result in 1999 when he entered the third round of the US Open . In doubles he only took part once when he was eliminated in the opening round of the Australian Open in 1999 .

In both 2005 and 2006 , Peter Wessels represented the Netherlands at the Hopman Cup . Both times he formed a team with Michaëlla Krajicek . In 2005 they were eliminated after the preliminary round with just one win against Zimbabwe. At the 2006 tournament, the two first prevailed in the play-off match against China before defeating Argentina, Australia and Germany in the preliminary round. In the final, Wessels and Krajicek lost 2-1 to the US team.

Peter Wessels played a total of six games for the Dutch Davis Cup team between 2005 and 2008 . He won two of his four singles and two of his five doubles.
