history
Menahga was founded in 1891. It was named after the Ojibwe word for the Blueberry River. A year later, the place was incorporated as an independent municipality. The first white settlers had come to the region from the eastern United States in the 1870s, while the majority of later settlers came from Finland. In 1891 the city was connected to the route network of the Great Northern Railway . In the same year a post office was opened.

According to the 2010 census , Menahga had 1,306 people in 569 households. The population density was 136.3 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.18 people lived in each of the 569 households.
The racial the population was composed of 97.8 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 0.3 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.1 percent of the population.
