Lorenzo Manta (born September 16, 1974 in Winterthur ) is a former Swiss tennis player of Italian descent.

Life

Manta was trained by his father Leonardo Manta , an Italian who took part in the Davis Cup for Switzerland in 1971 and became Swiss mixed champion in 1974 as a representative of LTC Winterthur together with Evagreth Emmenegger . He was able to reach a final in a double competition on the ATP World Tour . In 1999, he was defeated in the tournament in Tashkent on the side of Mark Keil just against his own long-standing Davis Cup doubles partner Marc Rosset , who along with Oleg Ogorodov came into office. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 2000 with position 103 in singles and in the following year with position 82 in doubles. His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was the 1999 round of 16 at Wimbledon , and in 2001 he reached the double round of 16 at the French Open .

Manta played for the Swiss Davis Cup team between 1995 and 2001 . He played his first of a total of eleven doubles (balance 9-2) alongside Jakob Hlasek , until 1999 he played with Marc Rosset, after which he was partner of Roger Federer . Between September 1997 and April 2001 he won nine doubles in a row. He also appeared in five individual games, but was defeated four times. He celebrated his only win against Vasilly Kazhera in a 5-0 win against Belarus .

In 2002 he ended his career at the age of 27 for health reasons.

Private

He is the brother of Joana Manta , who was also a tennis player. Today he and his family run the catering company Manta-Bar AG based in Winterthur.
