In September 1997, an ATP tournament was held for the first time in the Uzbek capital Tashkent . The prize money was $ 328,000. The starting field consisted of 32 players in singles and 16 pairs in doubles. The first winners were Tim Henman in singles and Vincenzo Santopadre and Vincent Spadea in doubles. The top seeded player was Yevgeny Kafelnikow , then number 4 in the world rankings .

The tournament was held every September. With the same number of starters, the prize money has increased to US $ 525,000 in the last two years. The only Uzbek tournament winner in 1999 was Oleg Ogorodov , in doubles with the Swiss Marc Rosset . The last winner in 2002 was Yevgeny Kafelnikov. There has been no more ATP tournament in Tashkent since 2002; the women's tournament first held in 1999 still exists.
