from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kremlin Cup 2000 was the 11th edition of the indoor tennis tournament in Moscow . The tournament was part of the ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel from October 23 to 29, 2000 and was held in the Olimpijski sports complex , the Moscow Olympic Stadium.

The successful defending champion in the individual was the Russian Evgeny Kafelnikow , who won the tournament for the fourth time in a row. After two double titles and victory at the Olympic Games, this was the second success for Kafelnikow this season and the 22nd title in a single tournament in his career. He defeated the German David Prinosil in two sets in the final .

Prinosil was able to win the doubles tournament alongside Jonas Björkman from Sweden . The German-Swedish double succeeded Justin Gimelstob and Daniel Vacek , who both did not run this year. For Prinosil it was the second double title this year and the eighth of his career. Björkman won a double tournament for the first time this year, but has already enjoyed over 20 more in his career. It was the first time that Prinosil and Björkman were successful together.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize pool was $ 975,000 and total financial liabilities were $ 1,000,000.
