Christian Ruud (born August 24, 1972 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian tennis player .

Life

Ruud became a professional tennis player in 1991 after having played for Norway in the Davis Cup for the first time at the age of sixteen . First, he played on the ATP Satellite Tour to gain first world ranking points. He played most of his career in the ATP Challenger Tour . In the course of his career he was able to win twelve singles and one double title there. His best result on the ATP World Tour was the final at the Swedish Open in 1995, when he lost to Fernando Meligeni . In the same year he reached position 39 in singles and position 264 in doubles, his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings .

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the round of 16 at the 1997 Australian Open . After victories over Jan Siemerink , Leander Paes and Neville Godwin, he was finally defeated by Goran Ivanišević in five sets. In doubles he was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament.

Ruud played 39 singles and 15 doubles games for the Norwegian Davis Cup team between 1989 and 2000 . His individual record was 24:15 in singles and 7: 8 in doubles, making him the most successful Norwegian Davis Cup player to date. He played singles for Norway at the Summer Olympics in 1992 , 1996 and 2000 , and in 1992 he played doubles. His best result was participation in the third round in 1996 after victories over Alejandro Hernández and Marcos Ondruska .

His son Casper Ruud is also a professional tennis player.
