Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2000
The Legg Mason Classic 2000 was the 31st edition of the tennis hard court tournament in Washington, DC It was a tournament of the International Series Gold of the male ATP series . It took place at the same time as the RCA Championships August 14-20, 2000. The prize money was $ 700,000 for both the singles and doubles tournaments. In singles, 56 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 28 pairings. The first eight seeded players, or the first four seeded doubles, got a bye into the second round.
Defending champion of the individual competition was the American Andre Agassi , who failed in the final this year against the Spaniard Àlex Corretja . It was Corretja's fourth success of the season and the 13th of his career.
In doubles, the top seeded US pairing Alex O'Brien and Jared Palmer won , which was Palmer's second win at this tournament after 1992. The defending champions Justin Gimelstob and Sébastien Lareau did not participate this year. For O'Brien this was his second success of the season and 13th double success of his career, for Palmer it was already the fourth title this year and his 16 overall. It was their third mutual success on the tour.
