Heineken Open 2000 / men

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heineken Open 2000 was the 25th edition of the hard court tennis tournament in Auckland . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with Adidas International in Sydney in the second match week of the 2000 season from January 10th to 16th, 2000. Both tournaments were thus the last preparation tournaments for the Australian Open , which started on the 17th. The prize pool was $ 325,000 for both the singles and doubles. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The defending champion of the individual competition was the Dutchman Sjeng Schalken , who was eliminated in the quarter-finals with sixth seed this year. Instead, the two seeded Swede Magnus Norman won the eighth title of his career.

In doubles, the first seeded pairing Rick Leach and Ellis Ferreira won , who succeeded Jeff Tarango and Daniel Vacek without losing a set . Tarango was in the final with his new partner Olivier Delaître . It was Leach's 31st double success of his career, for Ferreira it was the 13th.
